Most of our quilts come in a fixed set of sizes and temperature ratings. This one doesn't. Use the builder above to choose every detail, and we sew it to order in our Pennsylvania shop. Because it's built for you, price starts at $360 for the base configuration and climbs as you add warmth, premium down, length, and fabric — you'll see the total update as you go.

What You Choose

  • Temperature rating: 40°, 20°, or 0°F comfort — all Jacks R Better quilts are comfort-rated.
  • Down fill power: premium 1000 fill for the lightest, smallest-packing quilt, or 850 fill to trim the price at a small weight-and-bulk penalty — both RDS-certified.
  • Length: Short (69″), Regular (78″), or Long (86″) to match your height.
  • Shape: Multi-Function Rectangle (48″ wide) for back sleepers — and it doubles as a hammock underquilt with the JRB Suspension System (sold separately) — or Wide Half-Taper (55″ tapering to 45″) for side and active sleepers.
  • Footbox: Standard, formed with a drawcord, cord-locks, and double-sided Kam Snaps so it lays flat as a blanket, closes into a foot box, or stacks with other quilts; or Sewn, permanently closed for the lightest, cleanest finish.

  • Your choice of down: 1000 fill power is our most efficient — the best warmth-to-weight ratio and the smallest pack size; 850 fill trades a little weight and bulk for a lower price. Both are RDS-certified and hand-filled to hold your comfort rating.
  • 25% over-stuff: every quilt is over-stuffed by 25% to reduce down shifting and hold its rating even as the down loses a little loft between cleanings or in damp conditions. We don't recommend additional overstuffing.
  • Ultralight fabrics: choose 0.67 oz 10D, ultralight 0.49 oz 7D, or 0.9 oz 15D Woodland Camo shells.

Packing and Storage

On the trail, we recommend a lawn contractor bag or trash-compactor liner to keep your quilt dry while letting it expand to fill the space in your pack; compression sacks are available separately for the smallest possible pack size. Prior to purchasing the quilt, I watched what few review and "unboxing" videos that existed for the JRB Quilts to get a better idea for what I was in for. The videos I watched showed that aside from the underquilt/topquilt combo, the quilt could also be fashioned into a sort of puffy poncho, which I thought added to the features, justifying the price even more. So I made the purchase and went with a custom color scheme to somewhat match the rest of my gear.

As I was shipping to Australia, I knew I would be waiting for some time, and was prepared for the inevitable holdup in customs and even expected a "Trumpiff". The communicaiton with the team at JRB throughout this was top knotch. As soon as the product was ready they let me know it was dispatched and I received the item quite quickly, within a week if I recall correctly. And there were no holdups or extra fees or tariffs. So I was already feeling overjoyed with the purchase. 5 stars up to this point.

Now for the nitty-gritty...

It was put to the test immediately. I unpacked the quilt and put it into a stuff sack, loaded up my pack with the rest of my gear for a day trip to a park and setup my hammock sleep system with the new underquilt. I wanted to practice the setup and make sure it held up to the hype. It was a cool windy day.

Setup: fairly simple with the included instructions; I found a few other ways to hang it that work better for my particular hammock configuration, but all in all a great success, no issues. I brought my sleeping pad along as well to test the quilt setup that way. I snapped all the little snaps and laid on the ground for a while and was very pleased, warm, comfortable... I was feeling great with the purchase.

Quality: The materials used for this product are intended to be ultralight. as such they feel quite delicate and the feather down inside at first seemed like it wouldn't be enough to sustain the temperature rating that was given... like, it felt very thin. After a few hours of laying in the wind, though I was convinced otherwise, for the down lofted up and did an excellent job at keeping me toasty warm in my comfy hammock... almost too warm.

Then came the pack down... As I was unsnapping the little snaps of the footbox, not just one, but two of them ripped nearly completely out of quilt and one of them ripped into the large down chamber and a few feathers began flying around. I further investigated how this could have happend and found that it comes down to this... CHEAP plastic snaps BARELY supported by anything but the delicate little fabric of the quilt could not handle the minimum force required to unbutton the snaps. You have to be super careful with how you unbutton these and to not pull on them from the fabric itself but from the button directly which is difficult if you have larger fingers. I ended up having to use my SAK to pry them apart just to be on the safe side so that no more ripped.

Thankfully I had some gear tape with me at the time and was able to patch up the tears and reinstall the buttons through the tape.

This made me super dissapointed and made me look even further at the rest of the quality of the quilt, and I think there are couple of areas that could be improved without sacrificing too much on the weight side of things: The stitching all around the quilt seems loose and quick, and all it will take is one tiny fray or tear or thread run and the whole thing will come undone. The buttons should honestly be replaced with a zipper section or at least reinforced to support the inevitable strain on the fabric that will risk tearing the buttons out, ow change the button style so that they will more easy come unsnapped at a certain strain.
The length of the section where the buttons are is roughly half a meter or so (2 ish feet). and only 2-3cm (1 inch) wide such a small amount of reinforced fabric or zipper would add what, 30g of weight, max.? and completely have eliminated this instance from happening to me and others.

A product that is meant for the outdoors, should not have to be babied so much to the point that now I am afraid to let anything else touch it except my person. I mean i get worried now everytime i put it in my bag.

Functionality: The dual functionality of the quilt is amazing and exactly what I was looking for. However, as I was expecting something similar to what I saw on the review videos, with the puffy poncho function, I was disappointed to see that this was not the case. This is not entirely JRBs fault, I should have asked.

3-Stars as it is quite pricey for a bit of a cheaper feeling quilt that I now have to spend extra attention to every time i setup and packdown and have already had to make repairs to. I have used it a few times now on full camping and hiking trips and the thought of it getting damaged again is constantly occupying my mind when on the trail or at camp, which takes away from the experience. At least I now have a quilt for both ground and hammock.

Out on the AT with my 40f 7D ultralight quilt. I love the decision by jacks to use snaps vs Zipper for the footbox and also the Horizontal baffles. The snaps make the footbox more comfortable as I notice the zipper on my EE quilt and the baffle system allows me to push down to the side on warm nights and shake it to center on colder nights. This quilt is amazingly versatile and super light despite being the large half taper.

I cannot say enough about how much I love this quilt. Its super light and fluffy, while very warm. Just make sure to shake it out occasionally to keep the loft
